Ocean Adventure in Subic

Ocean adventure in Subic is one of the best attractions in the Philippines, and is the only open water marine park in Southeast Asia.

It has been operating for 10 years and still has continually provided its guests great and fun experience. It has gained the reputation of being the premiere attraction of Southeast Asia. They have been pushing their cause of preserving the marine life, and their greatest mission was to provide an informative and entertaining experience to guests through their world-class shows and presentations as well as animal interactions.

Most of the marine species you will see in Ocean Adventure were rescued animals that were almost slaughtered or have almost died in the wild. Ocean Adventure simulated an environment wherein these species can live and can be taken cared of closely. The animals were rehabilitated and were trained in order to give us great shows that can entertainingly educate viewers to preserve their species.

This water park is located inside Subic Bay Freeport Zone which is just 2 ½ to 3 hours north from Manila. It is specifically situated at Camayan Wharf, West Ilanin Forest Area, Subic Bay Freeport Zone. It is a known attraction in Subic Bay thus locating it is easy. The park offers exhilarating shows your family can surely enjoy. Different stadium showcases presentations of different animals. They have Dolphin Friends Show, Sea Lion Marine Patrol, Walk on the Wild Side, The Adventures of Olongapo Jones, Ocean Discovery Aquarium, Learning Center and Sea Lion Point.

In my family’s visit to the park, we were welcomed with a souvenir shop where you can buy great trinkets to take home. They also have photo booths for you to take home a great captured moment on the park. The shows for the day were well-organized thus missing a show was never an issue. Shows begin and end without overlapping other shows and they have their schedules posted on a number of boards.

We immediately headed to the ongoing show, the Walk on the Wild Side! As a starter show, it was fun and animal exhibitions were totally insane. Animals participated and interacted as if they were great actors and actresses. The script was interactive and we enjoyed the thrill of the play. A cool scenario I remembered was when they asked a viewer to go up on stage and guess which of the following boxes contained a snake by mere feeling its texture. It was super exciting to see if the person can guess it right. There were other scenarios wherein they have taught us great surviving skills we can definitely use in the wild such as how to make fire out of stones or bamboo and this was taught to us by a native of the place. After the show, we were allowed to touch the different animals which participated in the play and have our picture taken with them.

After this show, another show in a different stadium started, and that was The Adventures of Olongapo Jones. This presentation was far different

from the first we saw. This time, it’s a display of acrobatic skills by 2 foreign play actors who kept on jumping on a trampoline or get hanged 10 meters high by a harness. It was thrilling to watch but their comedic storyline hooked me more to the show. After the play, we went up on the stage

and have our pictures taken with the cast and mascots.

The next presentation we witnessed was the Dolphin Friends Show. This was a very special play because my sister was chosen to be the one interacting in front and give commands to the dolphins.

She also got a chance to hold the dolphins while they peek out of the water. She was chosen by the staff of the show because she was very gorgeous that time. Ocean Adventure has packages for Dolphin interaction but these were given in expensive rates. Dolphin photo encounter (solo ) for instance was 500php and their beach encounter package was worth 2800php. They also have a Dive Encounter Package which was worth 4760 php.

After the great dolphin show, we headed to the Sea Lion Marine Patrol Show! This time, we witnessed a sea lion obeying commands from his trainer in a short skit about detectives. It was so cool how the sea lion participated as if it was a real detective. There was also an instance wherein the sea lion flaunted its dancing and grooving skills! This was a great show to end the day.

Before finally ending our day in Ocean Adventure Subic, we took a short visit in their Ocean Discovery Aquarium and Learning Center. It was a room filled with aquariums that have displays of amazing marine species. It was smaller than the other ocean parks I previously visited but it was still amusing to witness.

And the day ended giving us not just fun and entertainment but also know-how about their cause of marine preservation. This was something worthwhile to encounter with your family or friends. :)

Keni Po Hotel in Tagaytay City

Finding a good hotel in Tagaytay is easy. The city offers various inns and hotels that will surely fit in your budget. One of the good places to spend your night in Tagaytay is Keni Po Hotel situated near the famous tourist attractions of the place -Picnic Grove and People's Park in the Sky. Josephine's Restaurant - Tagaytay City

A lavish perch that offers a perfect lookout of the country’s breathtaking Taal Volcano- Josephine’s restaurant. This is a perfect place that can grant your fine dining wish. Located in Philippines’ second summer capital city, the Josephine’s Restaurant also serves gastronomic delights Tagaytay City is known for, from the famous bulalo to the fried tawilis. Moreover, you can also marvel on its first-class aesthetically designed dining area, enjoy its cool climate and be in love in its urban scenery. In my visit there, I can’t get enough of the magnificent view they got of the Taal Volcano from their view deck. Even in a hot afternoon, I still pursued on getting a table in their veranda. The Main Dining area looks classy as well. I also have a planned menu in my itinerary and brought out that plan to the table. I ordered bulalo (beef’s bone marrow) and the famous fried tawilis wherein the fish can only be found in Taal’s lake. The food tasted fine, but not the best tasting bulalo though. Their cuisines are on a reasonable price. You can prepare Php1500 for 5 people.

Ninoy Aquino Monument (Tagaytay Rotonda)

A landmark that will help you easily spot Tagaytay City when you travel there by bus is the Ninoy Aquino Monument also known as the Tagaytay Rotonda. It is at the end of Aguinaldo highway. A roundabout where the acknowledged statue of a well respected National Hero of the Philippines stands. A signage stands also beside the statue claiming that Tagaytay is the City of Character. Luxurious streetlamps wrap this monument. A marking you will surely include in your picture taking session as you visit.

People's Park in the Sky- Tagaytay City

This is previously known as the Palace in the Sky, built by the former President Marcos to house President Ronald Regan and his first lady for their visit in the Philippines. Unfortunately, the palace was unfinished because of the political skirmishes Marcos faced during that time. Today, the formless structure of the palace remained, and does story tell a part of the Philippine history making it a landmark and one of the best tourist spots of Tagaytay City.

Currently known as the People's Park in the Sky, this area has the best view of Manila Bay, Laguna Lake, and the Taal Lake. It is the highest place of Tagaytay City. If you are lucky to get a good weather in your visit, the view in here will surely give you a breathtaking experience. But most of the time, do expect thick fogs blocking the spectacular scenery.

The entrance fee to the palace is just as cheap as Php15, but during wet days, an additional Php15 is collected for the cab fare from the entrance gate up to the mansion which is just a 5-minute ride.

As you arrive, do expect a palace that looks like an abandoned building. I can imagine it appearing amazing if this was only finished. You can see a mini-theater inside, and a huge pond that currently looks like a garden. There is also a huge grotto and a satellite. A gigantic 3-floor building with high ceilings. On the ground floor area, souvenir shops furnished the empty rooms. At least tourist could also enjoy Tagaytay's specialties aside from the famous scenery they intend. There are a wide array of choices in the souvenir shops, from house decors to tops and flip-flops, to caps and food. A good place to purchase some items for families and friends back home.

If it happened that you got hungry during your tour, then worry no more since a small restaurant is also renting inside the building. The Grandview Foodhaus has short orders that you will surely like, however some of the food they offer are really pricey.

If you are up for some walking, then enjoy returning back to the gate on your shoes. This will also give you a chance to take a snapshot of you with the huge name of the place- PEOPLE'S PARK IN THE SKY!

Picnic Grove - Tagaytay City

One cheap attraction well-commended when you visit Tagaytay is the Picnic Grove. This is located in Brgy. Sungay which is in the east-end of Tagaytay City on the way towards the Royal Taal Inn and People's Park in the Sky.

This place offers a great view deck where you can have a good glimpse of the famous Taal Lake. Cottages for picnic sessions scatter in the place which you can rent during your stay- Overnight lodging is also offered. The prices do vary depending on the size of your rented cottage, prepare 100-250 fee. They also have grill pits where you can cook your barbecues which can be used for free. Moreover, you can enjoy mounting games with your kids in the terrain or walk with your friends in their Eco-Adventure Trail. This trail directs you to a brimful vegetation and unto a hanging bridge that will surely shake you. You will also be seeing a backdrop of people flying on a zipline.

What I enjoyed most in my visit there is their ZIPLINE and CABLE CAR. The zipline is a less than a minute ride that will give you a luscious view of the place. The cable car on the other hand is a slower ride where you can sit back, and just be overwhelmed of the height for 5 minutes. You are allowed to bring your camera during the ride but just make sure that you are holding it tight!! The rides operate from 9am up to 6pm.

Horseback Riding is also a fun ride to try in Picnic Grove. Expect that horse owners will drag themselves to you as soon as you arrive shouting out loud the name of their horses- Piolo!!!! Sharon!!!! and many more familiar names... lol. If you are up for such, just prepare Php200 for big horses and Php100 for the smaller ones. You also need to pay an additional Php150 for the Adventure Trail. A guide will be with you throughout your ride. Well, I could not talk more about it since I was not able to experience horseback riding that time.

I got lucky though, was able to witness a free concert by ichy worms sponsored by smart..!! :)

But all in all, it was one great stopover to ponder again and again! =)
